Hidden connections
Stop recording an app or a domain, choose what happens to the rows already listed, delete saved history, and show those connections again from Settings › Monitor.
Hide a source and Outbound stops recording its new connections. The filter still decides every connection. Rules still apply. What stops is the record: no new row in the Network Monitor, nothing new in Review, nothing new in the saved history, and no audit line.
Hiding something
Section titled “Hiding something”In the Network Monitor, right-click:
- an app and choose Hide Connections from APP…, or
- a destination or a folded domain and choose Hide Connections to DOMAIN….
The confirmation is titled “Hide connections from NAME?” or “Hide connections to DOMAIN?”. It asks what to do with the rows already on the list:
- Hide and Remove from List takes them off the list now.
- Hide and Keep Listed leaves them until Outbound restarts.
The body reads: “Outbound stops recording new connections: nothing new here, in Review or in the saved history. Your rules still apply to them. Show them again in Settings › General › Hidden Connections.” It adds that neither choice deletes saved history or statistics. Outbound asks each time and does not remember the choice. Undo restores the rows and shows the app or domain again.
That sentence names General. The section itself is on the Monitor page, described below.
Removing rows without hiding
Section titled “Removing rows without hiding”Remove from List, in the same right-click menus, takes an app, a destination or a domain off the list now without hiding it. New connections still appear, and nothing saved is deleted. Undo puts the rows back.
Deleting saved history
Section titled “Deleting saved history”Hiding never erases what was already saved. That is a separate step: right-click the app, destination or domain and choose Delete Saved History for NAME…. The alert reads: “Saved connection events for NAME will be permanently erased. This cannot be undone. New connections will still be recorded; your rules and statistics stay in place.” Choose Delete Saved History to go ahead.
From Terminal, outboundctl history delete with --app, --host or --domain erases the same records. It refuses to delete every app’s history at once. The rows it erases also leave the app.
Traffic from hidden connections
Section titled “Traffic from hidden connections”While something is hidden, a Hidden Connections row at the top of the Network Monitor list totals what those connections sent and received, without naming any destination. When only part of that traffic could be measured, the row says Measured portion. With nothing measured it says Traffic unmeasured.
What is matched
Section titled “What is matched”Apps are matched by the owning app’s path, or by the executable’s path when the program is not inside an app bundle. Hiding one helper hides the app it belongs to. Domains are stored in lower case, and hiding a domain hides its subdomains: hide example.com and assets.example.com goes with it.
The list is kept in this app’s preferences, not in the store the filter reads. Hiding is bookkeeping, not a rule.
Showing again
Section titled “Showing again”Settings › Monitor shows Hidden Connections once something is hidden. App rows use the file name, with “.app” removed. Each app and each domain has Show Again. Record-keeping resumes as soon as you click.
When the list is long enough, a field prompts Filter apps and domains. It matches the name on the row and, for an app, the path. A host name or a web address shows a hidden domain that covers that host. Nothing matched reads “Nothing hidden matches “query”.” The footer reads “Not recorded from the moment they were hidden. Rules still apply to them.”
