The Appearance settings page: light or dark windows, the window tint, the traffic colour pair, and website icons.

Outbound 1.2.0 · Updated

The Appearance page sets how Outbound looks: light or dark for its own windows, the wash of colour on those windows, the colour pair its graphs use, and whether website icons appear.

Outbound Settings, Appearance: Automatic, Light or Dark, window tint, traffic colours, a preview, and whether to show and download website icons
Example data.

Appearance: Automatic, Light and Dark, drawn as three buttons. Automatic follows the Mac and is the default. Light and Dark apply to Outbound’s windows in this app. The rest of the Mac is untouched, and the menu bar item follows the menu bar’s own appearance rather than this control.

Window tint: a segmented picker. Standard, Graphite, Ocean, Forest, Sunset. Standard is the default: the Mac’s own window background, with no wash. The others lay a faint wash of one system colour over it. Graphite is grey, Ocean blue, Forest green, Sunset orange. The wash is heavier in dark mode (16%) than in light (12%), and still light enough that secondary text keeps its contrast.

The section footer: “Standard is the Mac’s own window background; the others add a faint wash of colour. Buttons, selection and links follow the accent colour in System Settings › Appearance. Traffic colours are the upload and download pair every graph and the menu bar use.”

Traffic colours: the pair used by every graph, bar and the menu bar meter. The picker offers five pairs, each shown live in the bars beside it. Orange and Blue is the default (system orange for upload, system blue for download).

Option Upload Download
Orange and Blue System orange System blue
Magenta and Blue A magenta that has its own light and dark versions A blue that has its own light and dark versions
Orange and Teal System orange System teal
Pink and Cyan System pink System cyan
Mint and Blue System mint System blue

The four pairs built from system colours follow light and dark mode and Increase Contrast. Magenta and Blue follows light and dark with its own colours.

A sample traffic chart drawn with the chosen pair, so you can judge the colours against bars before settling. It redraws as the picker changes.

Show website icons: on by default. “Icons that ship with Outbound, for sites and apps it already knows. This does not download anything.”

Download icons from websites: off unless you turn it on. “Off unless you turn it on. When on, Outbound asks each site for its icon and keeps it on this Mac. No icon service sees the sites your apps reach.” Turning this on adds Outbound’s own connections to sites; they are listed on Outbound’s own connections.

Restore Appearance Defaults puts this page back: Automatic appearance, the Standard tint, Orange and Blue traffic colours, website icons shown, icon downloads off.
