outboundctl profile

outboundctl profile list and activate: how profiles are listed and how activation resolves names and ids.

Outbound 1.2.0 · Updated

Profiles switch sets of rules by network. outboundctl profile lists them and switches the active one from the command line. activate changes settings and is subject to the edit policy.

Terminal window
outboundctl profile list

One tab-separated line per profile: a marker, the id, the name. The marker is * for the active profile and a space for the rest.

Terminal window
outboundctl profile activate <name|uuid>|none

The target is a profile’s id, its exact name (case-insensitive), or the word none. The outcome is printed: active profile: <name>, or no profile is active for none.

Name matching is exact rather than a prefix or a fuzzy match. If two profiles share a name, the command refuses with 'name' names more than one profile; use its id and changes nothing; a name that matches nothing prints no profile 'name' and exits 1.

Only rules without a profile and rules of the active profile apply while one is active; see how profile filtering works.

For example, outboundctl profile activate none deactivates the current profile. The word none must be lowercase. Successful list and activation commands exit 0; unknown or ambiguous targets and file failures exit 1; bad syntax exits 64; edit-policy refusals exit 77.
